- Regional Controller of Mines:
Qualification: Officers holding analogous posts or five years regular service in grade in Level-12; and possessing Bachelor or Master of Engineering in Mining Engineering with twelve or ten years experience respectively in metalliferous (non-coal) mines in management position or in Government Department dealing with mines and minerals as Gazetted Officer. - Senior Assistant Controller of Mines:
Qualification: Officers holding analogous post or two years regular service in the grade in Level-9 or Level-8 in the pay matrix; and possessing educational qualifications and experience prescribed for direct recruitment. - Assistant Controller of Mines:
Qualification: Assistant Mining Engineer in the pay matrix (Rs. 44900-142400) with five years regular service after appointment thereto and successfully completed training.

- Deputation/Short-term Contract: Appointment is made on a deputation including short term contract basis.
- Consultation with UPSC: Selection/appointment is done through consultation with the Union Public Service Commission.
