- Shortlisting: UPSC may shortlist applications using criteria such as higher qualifications, greater relevant experience, or other specified shortlisting rules if applications are numerous.
- Recruitment Test (RT/CRT) – if held: Where required, a Recruitment Test or Combined Recruitment Test may be conducted at specified centres; candidates must meet the RT qualifying level decided by UPSC to proceed.
- Interview: Selection is by interview for all posts, or by RT/CRT followed by interview for some posts; minimum suitability marks at interview are UR–50, OBC–45, SC/ST/PH–40.
- Final Recommendation: Candidature is provisional at every stage and final selection is based on combined performance and UPSC recommendation; shortlisted candidates will be intimated separately.
